What Design Means to Us
At Murray Fishpool, design goes beyond aesthetics; it’s a journey rooted in a deep understanding of a space’s underlying architecture. Our founders, Tim and Paul, both have backgrounds in architecture from their university studies and it is this starting point which shapes our approach to every project. We believe that the success of any scheme relies on its foundational elements, setting the stage upon which we can then add layers of considered detailing to create a harmonious, functional environment as well as allowing the humour, whimsy and character that are needed in a home to be more than surface deep.
Our passion for the key architectural principles drives us to create spaces that flow seamlessly. Influenced by modernist design, particularly the work of Mies Van Der Rohe, especially his iconic Barcelona Pavilion We strive to embody principles of simplicity and elegance. Each project is meticulously crafted, beginning with thoughtful layouts and sketches and evolving through material selections and mood boards. We embrace both 2-D and 3-D design techniques to tackle challenges and ensure a cohesive vision.
For us, a space must serve both practical and aesthetic purposes. Our mantra centers around creating interiors that are calm, considered, and luxurious—yet never pretentious. We believe in designing spaces that are comfortable and usable in everyday life, transcending fleeting trends in favor of timeless designs that endure.
Our influences extend beyond traditional interior design. We draw inspiration from automotive and product design, fashion, and the world around us—whether it’s the beauty of nature, the excitement of travel, or the nuances of daily life. These elements converge to enrich our creative process and inform our unique approach.
